Packaging and preservation inspection
Protecting conforming goods until they are installed. Packaging inspection prevents corrosion, impact damage and identification errors.
01How it works
Packaging inspection compares packaging and preservation with the packing specification: crate construction and timber treatment, cushioning and blocking, moisture barrier bags, desiccant quantity, volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCI), protection of machined surfaces, flanges and nozzles, centre of gravity and lifting point markings, and shipping marks.
Container inspection checks structural integrity, watertightness, cleanliness and odour before loading.
02Typical industrial applications
- Machinery and equipment
- Machined parts and spares
- Electrical panels and instruments
- Steel structures
- Long sea shipments
- Long term storage
03Benefits and what it detects
- Fewer transit damage claims
- Correct identification at site
- Evidence for insurance
- Corrosion prevention
04Limitations
- Internal packing cannot be checked after closing
- Visual inspection only
- Specification must define requirements
05Specifying and reviewing the method
Provide a packing specification with preservation method, packaging type, marking, documents in the package and photo requirements.
