Welding and Fabrication Quality

Pressure vessel and piping inspection

Buyer side inspection of pressure equipment and piping, from material receipt to hydrostatic test and the manufacturing record book.

01What the service involves

QUALITAS TR inspects pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, piping spools and skids during fabrication on behalf of buyers and EPC contractors. Scope follows the ITP and typically includes material and certificate verification, marking transfer, welding procedure and welder coverage, fit-up and welding inspection, NDT review, post weld heat treatment records, dimensional checks, nozzle orientation, hydrostatic or pneumatic test witnessing and final documentation.

Where the equipment is placed on the EU market under the Pressure Equipment Directive or built to the ASME code, statutory conformity assessment is performed by the notified body or authorized inspector. QUALITAS TR works alongside them as the buyer's inspector.

02Why buyers need it

Pressure equipment carries stored energy; failures are serious. Codes define minimum requirements, but buyers often specify additional requirements for materials, NDT or testing that the statutory inspector does not check.

Buyer inspection ensures that both code and project requirements are met and documented.

03Typical applications

  • Pressure vessels and receivers
  • Shell and tube heat exchangers
  • Atmospheric and pressurised storage tanks
  • Process piping spools
  • Skid mounted process packages
  • Boiler and power plant components

04Methodology

  1. Design and ITP

Approved drawings, calculations status and ITP confirmed.

  2. Materials

Plates, forgings, pipes and fittings verified with certificates and marking.

  3. Welding and NDT

WPS coverage, welding inspection, NDT results and repair control.

  4. Heat treatment

PWHT charts reviewed against the procedure; hardness checked where required.

  5. Testing and dossier

Pressure test witnessed; manufacturing record book reviewed.

05Applicable standards and references

In Europe pressure equipment is designed and built under the Pressure Equipment Directive, often using EN 13445 for unfired vessels and EN 13480 for industrial piping. ASME Section VIII and B31.3 are common for international projects. Welding qualification follows ISO 15614 and ISO 9606 or ASME Section IX.

06Deliverables

  • Pressure test witnessing report
  • NDT and PWHT review sheet
  • Manufacturing record book review
  • Inspection release note

07Customer benefits

  • Project requirements verified beyond code minimum
  • Correct materials in pressure boundary
  • Witnessed pressure testing
  • Complete, approved dossier
  • Single buyer side point of contact
