Quality management
ISO 10005: Quality management, guidelines for quality plans
How to define, for a specific order or project, what will be done to meet requirements and who is responsible.
01Purpose
ISO 10005 gives guidelines for establishing, reviewing, accepting, applying and revising quality plans, documents that specify which processes, procedures and resources will be applied, by whom and when, to meet the requirements of a specific case.
02Scope
It applies to quality plans for products, projects, processes or contracts, whether or not the organisation has a management system conforming to ISO 9001.
03Main requirements
- Inputs: requirements, constraints, risks
- Scope and objectives of the quality plan
- Responsibilities and interfaces
- Control of documents and records
- Resources and competence
- Purchasing and supplier control
- Production, inspection and testing (often an ITP)
- Nonconformity control and changes
- Review and revision of the plan
04Typical applications and industries
Quality plans are required by many capital equipment and EPC contracts. The ITP is usually an annex to, or a core element of, the quality plan.
05Audit and inspection considerations
- Does the quality plan reflect the actual contract requirements?
- Are responsibilities and sub-suppliers named?
- Is the ITP consistent with the plan?
06Common nonconformities
- Generic quality plan copied from another project
- No link between plan and ITP
- Sub-supplier controls missing
- Plan not updated after scope changes
