VDA 6.3: Process audit
The process audit method widely required by German and European automotive customers.
01Purpose
VDA 6.3 provides a standardised process audit method to assess and improve the processes for product development and series production, including supplier management and customer service.
02Scope
Applicable to automotive suppliers along the whole supply chain and to service providers. Its question catalogue covers potential analysis, project management, product and process development, supplier management, production process analysis and customer care.
03Main requirements
- Process elements P1 (potential analysis) to P7 (customer care, satisfaction and service)
- Questions rated with defined scoring
- Overall result and element results expressed as a degree of fulfilment
- Classification of the audited process, with downgrading rules for critical findings
- Use of the turtle model to analyse process inputs, outputs, resources and methods
04Typical applications and industries
Used for supplier potential analysis before award, process audits during development and series production, and for escalation.
05Audit and inspection considerations
- Is the process risk analysed with PFMEA?
- Are special characteristics controlled?
- Are reaction plans effective?
- Is product handling and storage controlled?
06Common nonconformities
- Process parameters without defined windows
- Insufficient control of special characteristics
- Inadequate sub-supplier management
- Poor handling of rework and reject parts
